And now it's Tron Bonne! She's pretty isn't she? When I was playing the MML games a had a major crush on her! She's very fierce and her fashion sense was of that a classy pirate. She even has skull earrings! I also like the choice they made for the American version. It suits her quite well.

Bilinear

Bilinear
9 x 7"
book vandalism
Marius Black
2013

I sure love creating book vandalisms and human anatomy figures. I also love making them explode like meat Popsicle and flowers petals alike. I actually came up or discovered book vandalism or add art at a very low point of my life.

Conundrum

Conundrum
9 x 7"
book vandalism
Marius Black
2013

Another book vandalism of mine, this time tackling the intricacies of an artwork. An architect has blueprints, an abstract painter has splatters for me, whatever artist I am I deal with details. Does that make me the devil then?

Apathy

Apathy
9 x 7"
book vandalism
Marius Black
2013

This is one of my first book vandalism artworks. I took this out of a Michelangelo book if you recognize the sketched anatomy. Book vandalism is basically me drawing on book pages, not really to destroy the book, after all there are other copies of it for sure, but instead creating a one of a kind art in exchange of adding a art on the artwork on the page.

Birth of Death Chapter 1 (cover)

Birth of Death Chapter 1 (cover)
7.5 x 9.6"
mixed media on paper
Marius Black
2009

Birth of Death is one of my ongoing novels. I still currently am writing it and would independently publish it soon. It's the story about Death being able to experience a life of his own, kind of like Meet Joe Black but with more sense.

Luminous Jesus

Luminous Jesus
8 x 14"
darkhold
Marius Black
2006

I made the dark hold series when I was still in college. Back when my sewed fingers where just rubber bands and black markers. Since I didn't have a digital camera to capture my works, I created something I had seen on TV.

The Delightful Crucifixion of the Masochist 02
8.5 x 11"
pen and ink on paper
Marius Black
2006

When I was still in college, I was experimenting on how to better play with the Masochism style I created. This is, for some of you who do not know, what I call the muscle paintings I make.

Along with the sky, I painted posts and electrical wire with glee. This are the simple things that made me happy doing. Truly when one is in doubt with life, just go back to the simple things that you love and go with that. You'll find your way soon enough.

There came a time when I was feeling down and I wasn't sure where my art and myself was really going. I couldn't remember specifically what I was in to at the time, all I can remember is when I was making these I was a bit lonely.

Boy, when Megaman Zero was released I was like a fan boy with tears of joy. I really liked Zero back in the X series but man oh man, when he got his own series I flipped out.

Did I say that I love Rockman? After finishing my first Rockman fan art, I decided to make another one. This time it's Megaman Volnutt of the Megaman Legends fame.

Rockman

Rockman
9 x 12"
trad x digital
Marius Black
2006

Rockman is one of my all time favorite video game characters. I used to play Rockman games on our family computer with my friends, swapping video game cartridges and codes so that we beat all the damn robot masters and eventually Dr. Wily. Alas my fondness of Rockman has never faded, it sucks that Keiji Inafune has left Capcom and no one really can produce a good quality Rockman / Megaman game going forwards.

Hindi Lang Siya Tao (Not Just A Man)

Hindi Lang Siya Tao
(Not Just A Man)

 12 x 18"
watercolor
Marius Black
2004

This is yet another artwork from our composition class back in 2004. Now we were tasked to create an artwork incorporating the shape circle. And I suddenly saw Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian man in my mind. And so I incorporated that along with my recurring theme of Jesus Christ works and I was able to make this.

Hindi Na Namin Alam Ang Gagawin
(We Know Not What To Do)
12 x 18"
watercolor
Marius Black
2004

Another artwork I made for composition class on watercolor. This time it's a three figure composition. And have I told you I like depicting Christ? Well it might because my parents raised me as a God fearing Catholic and sent me to a private Catholic school so maybe that's why it's ingrained in me. But maybe it's something deeper.

Hindi Kami Nagising (Sleeping while Praying)

Hindi Kami Nagising
(Sleeping while Praying)
12 x 18"
watercolor
Marius Black
2004

This artwork was done for our composition class in college. I love that subject, it really opened up my mind on the dimensions of placing your figures on the space of your canvas or paper. In this specific artwork, we were tasked to pain with watercolor a two figure composition.

Barbwire

Barbwire
4.37 x 5.69"
photography
Marius Black
2007

I bought a spool of barbwire for an artwork I was making back in 2007. I used like a frame on the side of the artwork as well as a makeshift crown of thorns and other useful things after that.

Dulo

Dulo
7.98 x 5.72"
photography
Marius Black
2007

I took this shot for my photography class back in college. We were tasked to take shots with black and white film. We were fortunate enough to experience the black and white films because back in 2007 the digital age was abound and the majority of people were just buying digital cameras and setting them on black and white.

Diyos Makina (God Machine) Part 8 Horseman Famine

When He broke the third seal, I heard the third living creature
saying, “Come.” I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on
it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard something like a voice
in the center of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for
a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; but do not
damage the oil and the wine.”

Revelation 6:5-6

I came across the Four Horsemen first when I was a kid on the 90's X-men Animated series, either that or from the Bible. It's quite blurry which came first but from that day forward the threat of the four beasts at the end of the world stuck with me more than that time my two fingers literary got stuck together with Mighty Bond (and I probably was at the same age when that happened).

The One Who Remains

The One Who Remains

Bodhisattva - a being who has accumulated sufficient merit and wisdom to attain Nirvana and escape the cycle of death and rebirth but chose to remain on earth to help others achieve salvation. Identifiable by a fragment of sacred water flask held in his left hand and by his characteristic double loop topknot.

The Enlightened One

The Enlightened One

Gautama Buddha, also known as Siddhārtha Gautama, Shakyamuni, or simply the Buddha, was a sage on whose teachings Buddhism was founded.

Buddha means "awakened one" or "the enlightened one." "Buddha" is also used as a title for the first awakened being in an era.

Gautama taught a Middle Way between sensual indulgence and the severe asceticism found in the Sramana (renunciation) movement common in his region.

Vishnu - the all-pervading essence of all beings, the master of—and beyond—the past, present and future, the creator and destroyer of all existences, one who supports, preserves, sustains and governs the universe and originates and develops all elements within.

ART FIX

Not all addictions are bad. Some call it passion, some call it obsession. When you crave for something that makes you whole or inspires you and does not degrade you or deteriorate you, you have found an addiction worthy of your time. I for one find myself seeing artworks everywhere and keep finding them in anything and in everything that I do. Everyday I devour artworks (paintings, comics, fiction, music, youtube videos, books, nature, toys, almost anything) to get my daily kick from something entirely new, something that can urge me to move and make me start working on my craft.

As an artist, this ritual is crucial, as a human being, it is like discovering a part of your soul. For we all have our passions and we must quench it. It is up to us to discover what they are. Mine is making art!

I, Marius Black offer you a daily dose of art inspiration of my works. Not to boast nor to encourage art envy but instead merely just to inspire. I do this to spark movement first with thyself and then maybe on to anyone who might be in need of it.

Join me in my quest for art making; painting, writing, and comics. And get your daily dose of art now!

Here's to art and everything else that comes with it!

Cheers! :)
